A NOTE FROM THE ARTIST

Every choice you make, every triumph and every hardship you have encountered have all brought you to this exact moment in time. The question is, what have you done with each of these life lessons and how have you chosen to use them? It is so easy to take the “woe is me” approach when you get struck with a devastating scenario and waste all your time blaming everything and everyone else. But I have learned that this approach doesn’t bode well for anyone. The real hard work and most beneficial approach is when you take the time to acknowledge your hurt and then do what ever it takes to develop yourself and become an even stronger individual. A good friend of mine has just made a life altering decision and has realized that just because you have made the tough decision, it doesn’t mean that there isn’t still an enormous amount of self work to do. The decision is just the first step. It’s then about discovering your thoughts and feelings and coming to peace with the decision so you can move forward. This process of change is often daunting and there will be times that you question everything. You’ll wonder if it would just be easier to go back on your decision or even take the self pity approach and dwell on the negative. But hopefully you are surrounded by people that will give you space and unconditional support, a shoulder to cry on and the time to wrap your head around the enormity of what you have just changed or decided upon. Having gone through a devastating situation myself, I have spent the last 3 years exploring every minute emotion and questioning what got me to that situation in the first place. That event has turned out to simultaneously be the most difficult and rewarding thing I have ever had to go through. I took the time to reflect and gave myself permission to feel awful and was eventually able to find a rhythm where I rediscovered what made me happy; A sunset walk near the water’s edge, a run in the rain or a few hours snuggled on the couch with a thought provoking book. It was these things that allowed me to take a step back and give me perspective that I am in fact ok and will move on happier and healthier. As my friend begins this journey, I am reminded of the courage it takes to go on a self discovery mission and that if you don’t take the time to heal yourself now, you are never going to be in a healthy space to be solid for anyone else in the future. “SCOVRIEY” 36×36 was painted as my way of remembering the hard work I have put into on my own self discovery, but also to give strength to anyone else that is embarking on this terrifying but extraordinary process. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes you.
