CONNECTION BUILDS COMMUNITY

I have to say, my favourite thing about the pandemic was the fact that I witnessed and partook in so many activities (distanced socially of course) that heightened my sense of community and togetherness.

Zoom calls with friends I rarely talked on the phone with, picnics in the parks with new neighbours, grocery deliveries for neighbours who couldn’t get out on their own, surprise birthday presents at your front door, singing together on balconies, beer deliveries, 7pm pot banging for the front line workers, etc, etc, etc. This list could literally go on for pages.

I saw so many wonderful moments that happened because of this pandemic and damn I was proud to be a human. We all witnessed what we are capable of if we came together as a community and it felt incredible to take that time to make someone else feel good. We weren’t worried about rushing around to our next appointment or getting the kids off to their third play date of the day.

Instead, we painted hearts and stuck them to our windows in thanks, we played boardgames as a family, we focused on making our homes and gardens a beautiful sanctuary and we took the time to send cards in the mail just to say, “Hi.”

Being a part of a community that thrives together and thinks of each other first is a future I want to see more of. My hope is that this piece of art and this writeup inspires you to keep being awesome and build the community around you more every day.
