A Note From the Artist

Self care is not an indulgence

Something special came out of this pandemic. I think a lot of us realized the importance of taking a little time to participate in some self care. I am not talking about extravagant spa days or enlightening meditation routines and learning how to speak another language, just the simple little things that have the power to reinvigorate and refresh. A walk with a friend. A conversation on the phone. A coffee in your garden. Just a few moments where you could breathe deeply and shed some of the weight that was compiling on our shoulders.

We often struggle with finding the time to do these acts of self care or think it’s selfish to even partake. When we put ourselves first, that means others become second or last and that is a tough one for a lot of us to accept. Despite this constant struggle, I think the pandemic allowed lot of people to find some space to be kinder with themselves. They were able to realize that practising a few things that brought them joy actually improved their ability to care. When we are healthier and clearer, we can be there for those that need us most. In fact, those that we put second or last get the best of us because we are now freer to be more patient, more tolerable, more open.

Self care is never perfect. It is something that waxes and wanes, ebbs and flows, and when it does happen, it allows us to be greater than we were a few moments earlier.

How will you treat yourself next?

  • There’s nothing like it in the whole world

  • It’ll make your other walls jealous

  • It can be shipped to you anywhere in the world (as long as you’re willing to pay for it)
