UNKNOWN

As if straight out of a fairy tale, some people seem to be born knowing their path . In reality, however, most people find that path to be anything but direct. You might be someone who finds the twists, turns and freedom of choice incredibly exciting. Or, you might be among those who find that uncertainty breeds tremendous anxiety. Whether you’re a college senior studying the arts, but having doubts about whether it’s really the right fit for you … or a mid-career lawyer feeling pulled toward a career in education … or a stay-at-home parent ready to return to the workforce doing something different than you did before … “not knowing” can be uncomfortable — or downright paralyzing. Our modern culture puts a great premium on clarity. It’s rarely acknowledged that there might be a valuable kind of knowing that would take time to access, and that would at first be vague and unclear. I say enjoy this space of the unknown. I say look up at that insurmountable mountain and declare, "I will get to your top when I get to your top."  It may not seem likely that there would be wisdom hiding in this fuzzy, vague, hard-to-describe something that you feel in your body, but there is. That’s exactly where the wisdom is: not in what is already clear and known — that’s old information — but in what is emerging in you, the knowing that is coming into awareness right now.  Value and even cherish the slow, subtle, and vague space of the unknown because it will all make sense when it’s supposed to.

  • There’s nothing like it in the whole world

  • It’ll make your other walls jealous

  • It can be shipped to you anywhere in the world (as long as you’re willing to pay for it)
